Wonderful Youth …

Posted by on Thursday, May 30th, 2013 in News

This young member of our church recently had a garage sale and donated all of the proceeds to the KidsAbility Foundation.  She got up in front of the congregation a couple of weeks before the sale and told us all about KidsAbility and asked us to drop by to purchase a new treasure.  Our Sunday School children helped out by donating some pop can collection money, too.  Over $600.00 was raised.  Thank you to all of our wonderful young people for inspiring us to make a difference!

Healthy Kitchens/Music and the Mind Day Camp

July 29 - August 2; 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

July 29th - August 2nd; 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
New this year ... half day options.  You can choose to participate for the whole day, or the morning or the afternoon!  This camp is for younger campers, JK - Grade 6.  JK's will be paired with Junior Leaders.  The morning session will be at St. Andrew's Hespeler and the afternoon session will be at St. James Anglican.  The walk to St. James will be fully supervised!
In the morning we will be learning about nutrition, how to make healthy snacks and safe, non-toxic craft items (like modeling clay); and how to appreciate and take care of the bodies and health that God has blessed us with.
Our morning will be filled with games, some crafts, bible stories, songs and creating in the kitchen!

And in the afternoon we will learn from Music and the Mind speaker Annetta Whetham about the changes that engaging in music makes on our brains!  Learn how professional musicians' brains are different from those who have never played music!

Our afternoon will be filled with music, snacks, bible stories and games!

Regisrtation forms can be found at St. Andrew's Hespeler and St. James Anglican.

Campers will have a chance to play or try out many different instruments and then choose an instrument to work on for the remainder of the week. No previous musical experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn something new.
A Friday evening worship service will highlight everything the campers have learned through out the week.  You will not want to miss this worship service. Everyone is invited to attend this worship service, even if you didn't have children or grandchildren involved in the camp.  Be prepared to be amazed!

The Book Room recommends "I Shall Not Hate", by Izzeldin Abuelaish

A Palestinian doctor who was born and raised in the Jabalia refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, Izzeldin Abuelaish is an infertility specialist who lives in Gaza but works in Israel. The Gaza doctor has been crossing the lines in the sand that
divide Israelis and Palestinians for most of his life--as a physician who treats patients on both sides of the line, as a humanitarian who sees the need for improved health and education for women as the way forward in the Middle East. And, most recently, as the father whose daughters were killed by Israeli soldiers on January 16, 2009, during Israel''s incursion into the Gaza Strip.

It was Izzeldin''s response to this tragedy that made news and won him humanitarian awards around the world. Instead of seeking revenge or sinking into hatred, he called for the people in the region to start talking to each other. His deepest hope is that his daughters will be "the last sacrifice on the road to peace between Palestinians and Israelis."
